I will keep you updated on local vaccination clinics and status of the programme on this page. The message is clear - Get boosted now! The Prime Minister has written to myself and colleagues to make clear that "we are now facing an emergency battle with the new variant Omicron and we must urgently re-inforce our wall of vaccine protection."
81.4% of those in groups 1-12 in Sussex have now received their 2 vaccinations, and 73.1% have had a booster. Capacity has been increased to meet the national targets so please support this monumental effort by booking your own booster right away, even if you have to travel a little way to get it.
I work closely with the clinical commissioners at NHS West Sussex to get the very latest information and to feedback any concerns raised by my constituents. The advice shared here is from NHS West Sussex, with updates directly from the local GPs.
As with the first rollout of vaccinations, I will work hard to ensure that no one misses out.
*** UPDATE – Monday 24th January ***
Walk in sessions are taking place every day between 11am and 4pm at St Richards Hospital (Chichester), Northgate car park (Chichester), and Worthing Hospital.
Across Sussex the NHS and its partners are working extremely hard to roll out the COVID-19 booster vaccination programme to our communities. Record numbers of vaccinations have been delivered locally over recent weeks, with almost 130,000 given last week and over 25,000 given over the last two days.
You can book your booster for 3 months from the date of second vaccine, and you can access the National Booking Service to forward book an appointment from 2 months after your second dose.
NHS Sussex are working at pace to increase the availability of appointments so that there are plenty of options for people on the National Booking Service. Some local vaccination services will also contact patients directly.
NHS Sussex will be working with all of their sites to take further steps to increase what they can offer again, including opening later and on more days.
All of these appointments will be added to the National Booking Service and I encourage everyone who is aged 18 and over, is yet to have their booster and who is approaching 3 months from your second vaccine to use the National Booking System to arrange your appointment when you are able to do so.
Housebound visits - this programme has been completed, but if you or someone you know has not received a visit please let me know immediately. They must be registered as housebound by their GP.
Who can get a COVID-19 vaccine?
- 1st doses – everyone aged 12 and above.
- 2nd doses – everyone aged 16 and above.
- Booster vaccines – people in eligible groups can now pre-book a booster dose from 2 months (61 days) after their 2nd dose. Although you can pre-book a booster dose from 2 months (61 days) after your 2nd dose, the appointment dates you’ll be offered will be from 3 months (91 days) after your 2nd dose.
It is important that everyone comes forward when they are eligible.
How to get your COVID-19 vaccine
In the main there are three key ways to get your vaccine:
- book your COVID-19 vaccination appointments online or by calling 119 free of charge
- book your appointment directly with your GP led local vaccination service when they contact you
- find a walk-in COVID-19 vaccination session where you can get vaccinated without needing an appointment
If you call 119, you can speak to a translator if you need to.
If you have difficulties communicating or hearing, or are a British Sign Language (BSL) user, you can use textphone 18001 119 or the NHS 119 BSL interpreter service.
